A true speciality of Puglia, Damiano Spina Cime di Rapa Pugliese features tender broccoli rabe preserved in a blend of extra virgin olive oil and sunflower oil with capers, herbs and spices. Their pleasantly robust, slightly bitter flavour is a classic companion to many traditional Italian dishes.
Serve with grilled sausages, orecchiette pasta, roasted meats or antipasti platters. They also make a delicious topping for bruschetta and focaccia.
Broccoli rabe (rapini) is a vegetable grown for its leaves, stems, and small flower buds. Despite the name, it isn't a type of broccoli. It's actually more closely related to the turnip (Brassica rapa).
Turnip tops (also called turnip greens or, in Italy, cime di rapa depending on the stage) are the leaves and flowering shoots of the turnip plant.
